The Sangushkis took the beginning of their family from the Prince Olgerd and belonged to
the narrow circle of "main princes", who were included into the structure of the
Large council of the Rus-Lithuanian state. Except for the Sangushkis, there were princes Ostrozki, Koretski,
Zbarazki, Zaslavski and so on. The
Sangushkis occupied administration posts in Bratslavshchina from the middle of the XVth
century. Among their number, Vasil Sangushko became the governor-general in Bratslav and
Vinnitsa in 1443 - 1445. The tradition was continued by his nephew Andrey Olexandrovich,
who did the same duties at the beginning of XVIth century. The next generation of the
Sangushkis got great land possessions in Bratslavshchina. Fedir Andrijovich Sangushko,
Marshalok of Volyn lands, became the Head of Vinnitsa and Bratslav in 1544 - 1547.
Earlier, in 1516 - 1517 that post was occupied by his brother Roman Andrijovich. In the
second half of XVIth century the family of Sangushko was glorified by prince Roman Fedorovich, "The
favorite of the king Sigizmund Avgust", polniy Lithuanian hetman. A talented colonel
of Livon War, he defeated Russian forces for several times, captured many enemy's

continued to play an important role in political life of Bratslavshchina and Podillia,
though their mission was not the main then. Grigoriy Lvovich Sangushko-Kosherskiy was the
